TORONTO, ON - (May 13, 2010): ole and U.K.-based Bucks Music Group, two of the world's largest independent music publishers, are co-hosting a unique writing initiative to craft hit singles. The Bucks/ole songcamp kicks off next week in London, U.K. on May 17 through the 21st. This effort unites 35 songwriters for five-days of networking and collaboration with the goal of creating new hit material.
Island Def Jam Music Group, represented by the company's Sr. VP of A&R, Max Gousse, is the featured participant at the London songcamp and the writers will focus on creating great songs for some of that label's top artists including Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Abraham McDonald and Chrisette Michelle. Among the writers at the songcamp, which will be held at the Grand Prix Studios in Chiswick, London, are ole's Tebey, Rupert Gayle, JC Smith and David Kopatz, along with Bucks Music Group's Si Hulbert, Jody Lei (Girls Aloud), Alan Eshuijs (Cascada) and Ray Hedges. Non ole/Bucks-affiliated writers in attendance include Chris Braide, Nathan Retro, (artist/writer) Lemar, Labyrinth, Erika Nuri of The Writing Camp, Lady V, Alan Nglish and Alphabeat.
Bucks Music Group head of A&R Jimmy Smith says the focus of the event is to write hits. "The first few days will have the writers scheduled in rooms together but will be more relaxed later in the week." Smith adds, "Any input from the artists will happen after the camp. Hopefully by the end of the five days there will be a number of hit singles created and also some tracks which can go on to become album contenders."
Chief Creative Officer Gilles Godard said "At ole, we continue to foster multi-genre international opportunities for our writers." Both ole's Qiana Conley, Creative Director, West Coast, and Elizabeth Spear, Senior Creative Manager will be on hand at the Grand Prix Studios to manage this event and will be available to the media. "This ole/Bucks Music Group partnership in London will be an intense, artist-focused collaboration with the A&R guidance of Island Def Jam's Music Group Max Gousse, who we are pleased to have on board for the event," said Elizabeth Spear.
Over the past few years, the ole songcamps have proven to be an effective generator of great copyrights, many of which have been placed with a variety of big-name artists. ole's third annual pop+urban songcamp, held in Hollywood last year and co-presented by Foxx King Entertainment and the Musicians Institute, delivered 40 news songs in 7 days. The Berlin songcamp, held last year with co-presenter BMG Rights Management, was incredibly successful. In three days, the four ole writers in attendance, along with the ten BMG writers, created nine songs, all of which have been recorded. Four of the songs appear in the German film Hanni und Nanni, which is set for a June 17th release in Germany.
