Global icon José Feliciano has just released, Behind This Guitar, his long-awaited new studio album available now on Anthem Records/Anthem Entertainment. Stream/download the album here. There never has been much space between the incomparable Feliciano and his guitar – a truth that his new album celebrates with the beguiling virtuosity and grace that can only come from an artist of his singular abilities and rich experience.

Behind This Guitar reunites José, a multi-GRAMMY winner and Latin GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement recipient, with his longtime producer, Rick Jarrard, at a landmark moment in an enduring global concert and recording career now well into its sixth decade. Jarrard and Feliciano have come full circle, rediscovering the elixir of their early collaboration that spawned such hits as “Light My Fire” and “Let’s Find Each Other Tonight,” (which also appeared in the Oscar-winning film Fargo). Their process was much like it always was: Jarrard searched for songs that would “bring out that fire, that artist inside him, songs that will go down deep inside José, songs that he will emote.”

José adds, “Rick Jarrard is a true brother. I love him to death. My relationship with Rick is like The Beatles’ with George Martin. We produced this album the way we used to do. The process took a while, but I have to say – Behind This Guitar is the best English-language album I’ve done in quite a while.”

The songs eventually chosen for the new record echo a career of transcending genres, with a characteristic fusion of Latin, pop, rock, country, and even flamenco. Recorded in Nashville – a first for Feliciano – the new album comes in the wake of the 50th anniversary of the singer/guitarist’s breakthrough success and his first GRAMMY Awards. At the same time, Feliciano’s classic 1968 cover of “California Dreamin’” is one of the top streamed tracks on the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino’s Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Behind This Guitar features gems such as the title track laced with Feliciano’s “majestic” (Guitar Player) guitar playing and “The Chain,” which upon its release had Digital Journal raving,” Feliciano is able to dust off the Fleetwood Mac original recording and give it his own distinct twist with acoustic guitar and flamenco elements, which are sheer bliss and make it even more appealing.” Other highlights include the patriotic, “I’m America” and the Keb’ Mo’/Alan Paris bluesy, “The Itch,” as well as an updated recording of his holiday evergreen and one of the best-selling Christmas songs of all time, “Feliz Navidad.”

José made the rounds this week to celebrate the album release, including appearances on AOL BUILD, Good Day New York, Paste, SiriusXM and more. He’ll also be at The GRAMMY Museum® in Los Angeles for a special, sold-out evening on February 11 featuring an intimate Q&A and performance.
