TORONTO, ONTARIO (September 9, 2017) – ole, the world’s fastest-growing independent music publishing and rights management company, announced today that singer-songwriter Kalsey Kulyk was named the winner of ole’s 3rd annual on the spot competition, held during PotashCorp Canadian Country Music Week on September 9 at Village Guitar & Amp Co. in Saskatoon, SK.
After an impressive showcase before a panel of expert judges including, John Ozier, Mike Whelan, Ben Strain, Emily Olson, and Gavin Slate, the Hudson Bay native won a deal with artist development label red dot worth up to $40,000 that includes music publishing, EP recording production, YouTube audio-visual management, and support from ole’s world-class creative staff.
Last year’s on the spot winner, Maddison Krebs, thrilled the crowd with a performance of her first single, “Lives for Love,” released on Friday, September 8th on ole red dot. A video for the song also debuted at the event.
“It was so exciting to perform at this year’s on the spot,” said Maddison Krebs. “It feels like just yesterday I was honored to win the competition, and to be there to perform my first single was the perfect way to complete an incredible year. I’m thankful to ole and red dot for everything they’ve done to support me.”
Part of ole’s label services arm, red dot brings together ole’s broad infrastructure in support of talented developing artists, providing instant exposure and opportunities in a business where the development process often takes years. In its third year, on the spot has proven to be an exciting addition to this initiative, enhancing ole’s already formidable cross-border capabilities in Canada and the U.S.
Collaborations between ole and red dot have led to major label deals for ole country singer/songwriter/guitarists Josh Dorr and Charlie Worsham, as well as Travis Denning and Jordan Davis. In addition to these artists, the program is also developing artists such as Jacob Powell, Adam Hambrick, Haley Reinhart, and 2016 on the spot winner Maddison Krebs.
“At ole, we are committed to artist and songwriter development. The success that ole has experienced in upstreaming artists over the last several years is unprecedented and we look forward to building on that momentum with this years’ ‘on the spot’ winner,” says ole VP Creative, John Ozier.
on the spot featured live performances from 10 contestants who were selected as finalists. Entrants were required to submit two YouTube videos to the official on the spot website for consideration, one in which they performed an original song and another in which they played a cover song from the ole catalog.
