clear (oleclear.com), the new production music division of ole, has acquired the rights to the brand and the sub-publishing book of business of The Music People Ltd., Canada's largest production music company. The Music People acquisition brings the rights to over 150,000 music tracks, from nearly 70 different music libraries, to clear. clear will launch this month as the largest player in this sector in Canada.
clear also recently-concluded a major Canadian sub-publishing agreement with the L.A.-based production music house, MusicBox, which brought 18,000 titles to clear. The clear library also contains thousands of available tracks, in three main clear-owned brands: Nelvana Production Music, a repurposing of the elite quality music from the Nelvana show library; Attitude, a cutting edge library produced by L.A. production music veterans, Cunningham & Lang (Chronic, Killer Edge) and The Masters, a fully-owned library of authentically-played orchestral and originally-produced material.
The oleclear.com website is a state-of-the-art online customer experience-and-decision engine that functions on all platforms and is primed to complement an already world-class ole brand. Says ole CEO Robert Ott, "The site sets out to create a client-site experience that gets them what they need fast and the way they want it. The site runs on iPad, iPhone - everything. We weren't struggling with legacy and had an opportunity to re-imagine how a site like this could operate in the most transparent manner."
As a result of the acquisition, Steve Smith of the The Music People will be joining the team at clear, bringing with him over 20 years of experience in the production music business as Mgr., Sales. clear will benefit from the existing finance and admin infrastructure of ole's main company, which has over 30 staff in Toronto, L.A. and Nashville.
Established in 1974 in Toronto, Canada by John Parry and Chris Stone, The Music People's vast client-base includes video and film post-production studios, radio and television stations, and other users that produce commercials, training films, feature films, and corporate presentations, among other media.
Notable music libraries sub-published by The Music People include Adrenalin, Apollo Live, Artful, Atlantic Seven, Focus, Mediatracks, Music House, Parry, Telemusic, and Standard, among others. ole will also benefit from the continuation of The Music People's long-standing relationship and reciprocal licensing agreement with Québec's Intermède Média, the production music division of Intermède Music.
"We are pleased that the thousands of copyrights we have represented in Canada for many years are being handed over to another independent Canadian company for exploitation within the country," state John Parry and Chris Stone of The Music People Limited. "We hope that ole will have a success story with this project."
Parry's own production music library (Parry Music Ltd./Parry Music, Inc.) will also be represented in Canada by clear. "This extensive music library, formed in 1974, has been well received in Canada for many years and contains thousands of works by Canadian composers as well as international writers," notes Parry. "It contains many Canadian-themed musical styles and we hope that ole will serve the library well in its exclusive Canadian representation."
"clear is pleased to welcome the great legacy that Chris and John built over the past decades," states ole CEO Robert Ott. "We look forward to providing the same world-class client service to our new sub-published companies that is the hallmark of ole's mainstream business."
